...Do people not like Russell Crowe? Or is it that he doesn't suit the image you had in your heads for Roland?

Really the second. And I'm not a huge fan.

See, I like the guy, but having not read the books obviously I can't really comment on his suitability. That said, he plays mucht he same roles as Barden. That of the grizzled, slightly bitter veteran. Its just Crowe brings a little more star power to the movie. Which can be both good and bad.

That said, if he can pull off Inspector Javert (The newest Les Mis remake. Him, Hugh jackman and Anne Hathaway... Awesome), I'm sure he can pull off the "Maximus Meridius with two pistols" that Roland often comes across at.

Don't know. I really was set on Bardem as soon as I hear about it, but Crowe flares up all the wrong markers for me. I just don't see him doing a trilogy. Not in the least.

Bit of mixed-up news is that Crowe's casting was proposed for Warner Bros' benefit. Now that WB walked away from the project, they may look to Bardem again, or someone new.

You should really watch it (I think it was like a 4 part miniseries or something)
