Good Reading Material?

Postby ZomBninjasamurai » Mon May 05, 2014 4:20 am

With Legacy non-canon now, I am both disgruntled with SW, and not at all interested with any of the other material anyways.

So, I have a problem, for the last few days I have literally been reading a calculus textbook when I don't want to talk to my friends, and well, functions are not fun. So, I need something to read, and before anyone says it, I am fully up to date on Atomic Robo, and I usually am not a big fan of manga.

There are a number of Warcraft novels I will suggest if you aren't against the idea. There are different themes to choose from; undeath, war, deception, betrayal, adventure, etc.

A Song of Ice and Fire should keep you occupied for a while. Wheel of Time would keep you occupied for even longer. The Mistborn series is really good, although it isn't very long.

And there's always Terry Pratchett.

Regarding the Mistborn series. Sanderson has also written several other books in his "Cosmere" universe, and is planning to write around 20 more. So reading the Cosmere novels will keep you occupied for much longer than just Mistborn. Though you'd have to wait for his other books to come out.

Lots of good short stories online. An excellent one is "The Last Question," and if you've seen the movie "The Thing," Peter Watts did a very intriguing short story based on the movie, but from the alien's perspective.

Other books I would suggest if you haven't rad them already:

World War Z
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Ender Saga
Tom Sawyer
Heart of Darkness
The Color Purple
The Things They Carried
Almost Pioneers

If you want something more 'intelligent' and dark I'd recommend Clockwork Orange, 1984 and Brave New World. In my opinion they are books that everyone should read by the end of undergrad, they just have so much timeless value.

*Considering I've decided to put my Temporary Self-Exile(Self-Ostracizm to be precise.) on hold, I may as well add the list*

The Codex Alera Novels by Jim Butcher have begun calling.
The Camp Half-Blood novels by Rick Riordan along with The Kane Chronicles started calling.(Starting from The Lightning Thief to The Last Olympian for 1st 5 main novels on the former, The Lost Hero to The House of Hades on the same section, while The Kane Chronicles is a trilogy that starts with The Red Pyramid in fact.)
Shadow Ops by Myke Cole have reported for duty, standing by.
The Madoka Magica Manga Spin-offs are standing by.
Department 19 and its sequels by Will Hill, Standing By.
Quantum Prophecy/The New Heroes by Michael Carroll, on Standby along with The SuperHuman Novels by the same Author.

This list and more are standing by.

I'd have more to list out where they stem from, but in terms of what's available that's gonna have to wait until the self-exile's done.

Please help save the dragon egg.

Reminds me of factpile in general!
