Best Sci-Fi of all time

Postby Matapiojo » Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:18 am

It is time for FactPile to determine what the best Sci-Fi movie of all time will be inducted into its halls of glory. Keep in mind that this is not to figure out which Franchise is best, but which SINGLE entry will stand as the epitome of amazing.

Make your selection based on the impact the movie has had on the history books from the time of its release to this date.

Note: Feel free to discuss any other entry not seen in the Poll, but remember that they must be just as monumental as the examples above.

You may also dicuss remakes where applicable.

This one is HHHHAAAARRRRDDDDDDDD, but I am going to go with Blade Runner.

This movie brought Sci-fi down to our level of existence, it made the outlandish tales of the genre feel quite plausible, or worse, probable. Thanks to BR, other film entries in that poll such as Terminator, and Matrix were as effective as we consider them to be today.

Everybody should. Like most oldies, it will seem dated, but it was pure awesome when I saw it for the first time in my youth.

Hard to choose. Honestly, i'd have voted Starship troopers. But if we're looking for the most Iconic.

Despite having average acting and a merely good script, Star Wars all the way. No other franchise has exploded in the same way that Stars Wars did, and its been responsible for some of the best spin offs ever (Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Forces,) and most Iconic Characters ever (Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Han Solo)

I haven't seen many sci-fi movies, but Terminator is definitely not the best. I've heard so much good about yet didn't get to see it before the autumn of 2009, and man I was disapointed. It was nowhere near as good as I hoped it would be.

I've watched Star Wars, and while I liked them they weren't movies screaming pure awesome. All are better than Termie, though, and A New Hope has had a LOT of impact. Most anyone knows Star Wars.

And, believe it or not, those are the ones I've seen, the others I merely know by name.

What Mata said about Blade runner is true and I can't help but feel many games have been influenced by it(in Mass effect 2, the city of Omega, Deus Ex). Having said that what influenced Blade runner? Even if it's not a direct influence i've got to give it to the film that remade Sci-fi, Star wars.

I just loved watching 2001: A Space Odyssey, mostly because of HAL 9000.

I'd say The Empire Strikes Back is the best movie of all time...
