I know, right! I mean that snake can get real hard real fast sometimes!

Then it would go through walls! What sorcery was that!

XD Definitely preordering and buying any collector's edition.

@Cookie
Yes, Dark Souls is known for difficulty, but that isn't its main drawing point. The game has so much brilliance packed into one disk.

It doesn't look like they're getting rid of the formula at all.

Also why not get 1 first? It's a cheap buy now

Yeah especially since that would be the prepare to die edition. Definitely worth it.

Dark Souls 2 isn't going to be out till March 2014 so if you are going to wait for it you will be waiting for a long time.

I recommend picking up Dark Souls 1 before then to both kill time and get yourself familiar to the fairly unique feel and pacing of the game mechanics, which seems that they are going to be carried over into Dark Souls 2. Honestly, the first few hours is the hardest part. Once you start to understand how the game works, and stop trying to play it like a different game, you end up having a lot more fun.

I did set Dark Souls down for... well over 6 months because I kept playing it more like a Zelda game than Dark Souls. It just wasn't fun. Once I came back to it though, I started playing it differently. I learned to exploit things better. Make more opportunities instead of waiting for one. Stopped wasting my stamina bar. And got a better weapon. Once I did that the game became much more fun.

There definitely is a learning curve. I would think that you would want to get over that curve before getting Dark Souls 2 at full price and then finding out you don't like it. That would be a shame.
If you find out you don't like it then you saved yourself some money by buying the cheaper, older game instead of the expensive new one.
If you find out you do like it then you got yourself a great game and you can jump right into the next one without having to learn the major game mechanic differences and instead just adapt to the tweaks.

But don't let me talk you into anything either. I know I sound like I'm pushing the game. I happen to just enjoy it a lot. I tend to do that with games I like a lot. If you got me talking about Super Metroid I'd do the same thing. ... Actually, that is a game everyone should play cause it is just that damn awesome and well made. Literally everything in that game is made to near perfection. The tutorial is great without there ever being any text telling you what to do, the routing is great despite it being largely linear corridors but non-linear routes (much like Dark Souls actually, in that in order to get from A to D you have to go through either B or C, and it is all interconnected). ... Actually the more I think about it the more it seems like Dark Souls took several pages from Super Metroid's book. Interesting.

And that's why you should play Super Metroid. ... Wait. ... I think I got off track somewhere.
