I don't know how many years I have devoted to this research, but I have spent most my life just to get this far, the amount of data on this event is endless! But even so there are gaps in easily accessible knowledge, some that take years to fill. This is a catalog of the events in a war, in reality this is only a snapshot, less even, in a battle raging since the beginning of time, and the clincher? Most don't even know it exists. It is a war between dimensions, a war between universes, one on an unparalleled scale. And most of it is done under the cover of darkness and cloaked in secrecy.
This is the story of one particular saga of events during this war, a war you may not even be affected by. But a war nonetheless. Some parts innocent and romanticized others brutal and cruel. The details in here represent the truth of the incidents, and if you recognize them I suggest you be cautious, very cautious. Read this and accept the truth and you may have the foresight to save yourself or your world. Disagree and read this as pure fiction and you may live in ignorant bliss for your natural lifespan. MAY. The war is spreading each day and there is no guarantee that you are safe. So the choice is yours.
CHOOSE.

My life was normal, no parental issues, no crippling disabilities, I was at most slightly above average in school, built with a fair amount of muscle, 5ft. 11in. tall I had golden blonde hair and blue-green eyes. Everything was doing fine. Emphasis on was.
It was on Halloween when he came to my door, I thought it was another one of his pranks since I didn't give him any candy, boy was I wrong. He was my best friend, my main man, Michael Drake. He was the same as me in every way except for three things, he had slightly darker hair, brown-green eyes, and he enjoyed playing pranks more than me. He was dressed like he planned to star in a play as the lone wandering ranger, he had wood brown boots, matching pants, a faded green T-shirt, and a green hooded cloak that seemed to slide from your focus. He had a sleek, metal hunting bow on his back and a quiver.
He smiled at me one that would have fooled anyone else, but I had learned to read him well, there was a hint of something else, weariness? Or was it sadness? I didn't give any sign of this revelation, and invited him in. I hadn't seen him in half a year and it was good to have him close again, he stepped through the door and gave me a hearty pat on the back. My parents came to the door and greeted Michael, as they did this he handed my dad a letter, I didn't know what it was but it made my dad's face darken in thought. As soon as it appeared it was gone again and my father smiled, "It's good to see you again Michael, why don't you take off those boots and catch up with Peter?"
"Sure thing Mr. K." Came the reply, he did as was asked and followed me to the small room I shared with my German Shepherd Physhbole. Why I named him that I don't know, but I did. Michael sat down in a chair next to a desk on the adjacent wall to my bed. I sat down on my bed and began to pet an obliging Physh. "So, what brings you here after such a long time?" I asked.
"Midterm enrollment, I am here to convince you to come with me to the Academy, if I meet my recruiting criteria I get a bonus on the next exam." He said with another mysterious smile. "You aren't going to leave me hanging on this now are you?"
"I am, I like it here, I'm not sure how well I'd do away from home."
"Aaawww, don't worry about it, the place is full of hot chicks, it has great facilities, and the rooms are larger than the one you have now."
"Really?" I was unconvinced but that didn't matter, though the reference to girls piqued my interest. We passed time just talking about random stuff, our families, any girlfriends, just normal things. After what I guessed to be about twenty or so minutes after Michael and I had started talking my Mom called us out of my room to have dinner, we had fresh hamburgers and fries, and the whole thing was delicious, but my sense of satisfaction didn't last long.
"Son," my father began, "I want you to go to the Academy with Michael."
"What?" I was shocked, "I love it here! I don't want to leave!"
"You will go and that's that, pack your bags and you'll be leaving with Michael in an hour." Now this was unsettling, my dad rarely put his foot down, but when he wanted you to do something you did it, 6'2", and muscular with gray tinted brown hair around the edges, and twenty years of experience in the military I NEVER fought with my dad, one lesson as a kid was more than enough. What was in that letter?
After I had finished up I Packed everything I thought I would need for a new life, half of my clothes, toiletries, and a few other "necessities". By the time I was ready I had taken an hour to pack and my dad was obviously anxious. "Where's the bus?" I asked. Michael pointed out towards my front yard. "Ah, right." I gave my dad a hug, kissed my tearful mom on the cheek and gave Physh a pet. Steeling myself I turned to Michael, "Alright, let's go." He led me to the bus looking just as nervous as my dad if not more so, he didn't say a thing until we got on the bus and were on our way.
Now, bus isn't exactly the word I would use for our transportation, I would have used, rolling junk box. It was an old and very abused school bus, with windows missing, and tagging all along its exterior. The interior wasn't any better, more than half of the seats were torn and nearly destroyed. The bus driver was fat and balding with a growth on his face that looked like a cat had crawled onto his face and died. And to top it off his name was Bob, yes, Bob the Bus Driver, and his bus Lucy, I got a great feeling about this.
As the bus started rolling Michael appeared to relax more visibly, while I kept getting more anxious, we had left the city and were taking increasingly less trafficked roads. If there was a premier school out in the plains less than an hour's drive from city limits I was pretty certain I would have heard of its location, and not seeing anything but an abandoned farmhouse for more than a mile I was freaking out when we pulled to a stop in front of the house. Michael was calm and looking fairly happy and he nudged me on the shoulder, "this is our stop."
"What? There's nothing here!" motioned around us.
"Trust me, grab your stuff and get off." He had a menacing look in his eyes.
"HELL NO!" I was panicking, "What's going on here? I never should have left!" I don't know where Michael pulled it from and it was too fast to see, but in the blink of an eye there was cold steel pressed firmly against my throat, I looked down and gulped, a rather deadly looking knife gleamed in Michael's hand. "Now," Michael grunted impatiently, "grab your things and let's get off, please? We don't have time." He pulled the knife from my throat and with a flourish it disappeared, I grabbed my things and Michael got off behind me, He motioned for me to stay put then drew his bow and nocked an arrow. Moving into the house cautiously and silently with the hood of his cloak up, I almost couldn't follow his movements towards the house with my eyes. What was that cloak?
After a minute or two Michael came back out and waved me over. I picked up the duffel bags at my feet and started moving toward Michael, when I got to him, the bus drove off at a speed it shouldn't have been able to achieve. Now that we were alone I needed answers, "What's going on here?" I demanded, "What was that letter?" Michael smiled then replied, "I'm taking you to the Academy, the letter was a warning, there are people hunting you, people your father knew in his past, eventually you'll learn more about them but now we don't have time, I need to get you through the door as soon as possible." Questions were flying through my head, what's the door, what people? But I just followed Michael, after the display on the bus it didn't look like I could do much if he decided to kill me or something.
He led me to the center of the farmhouse and tapped on a foot thick wall, one side of the wall fell away to reveal a staircase winding its way down into darkness. I stood gaping, this isn't possible, I'm dreaming, yeah, that's it, just a dream, follow you're deranged friend into the rabbit hole. I grabbed my bags and followed Michael down the stairs it got very dark then suddenly quickly electric illumination appeared light a long hallway down to what looked like a metal vault door. We made our way towards the door, and as we neared I noticed a security check station complete with a guard dressed in a white and blue security outfit. As we approached the guard called out to Michael, "Back already? Don't bother with the check, I'll just send you through. Did you know two guys who looked just like you tried to pass themselves off as you? Didn't know they had morphers here. Ah well, keeps me on my toes." He pressed a button and the door hissed at the seams, rotated, and swung open to reveal something that made me stop, a staircase in a wall was one thing but blue sky underground?
I walked through the door to find myself on the peak of a mountain, overlooking the coolest looking place I had ever seen. The far, North I figured using the sun as a guide, part was a massive city with high rises and the like, in the center of the Island was a massive structure about half the size of the city and the highest point higher up than the mountain. The rest of the Island was scenic vistas and white, sandy beaches. I fell in love with this place, it was that awesome, when I saw this I was convinced, I didn't care if my life went down the rabbit hole, I would do it for this awesome, tropical paradise, I would do it for my home.

Home, I love that word. Especially when you get there. Mine was destroyed years before I brought Pete to the Academy, all because of that bastard, Shale Darkwood. The heir to the Skyl Inc. throne, an evil organization hell-bent on domination of as many worlds as possible. After my family was killed in a "fire" I was brought here, to the Academy to learn how to fight against them, and now this place is in trouble, I lost one home to Shale before, IWON'T let them have this one. And to do that I have to get Pete involved, if there was any other way...
We arrived at the Academy without many incidents, good thing Pete didn't see the bodies of the guys waiting to spring us at the farmhouse, it would have freaked him out even more, I'm surprised they underestimated me so much though, considering I've been a thorn in their side for years I expected them to send someone at least able to notice me in my cloak. I looked over at him after we had gone through The Door, so that was the expression I had when I first saw this place. I have to admit it's a pretty kickass place to be. I let him look around for a little while before poking him on the shoulder and bringing him back to reality. "We should probably get you to your dorm now. " He nodded and we set about finding the lift that would bring us to the station at the base of the mountain.
We reached the lift and rode down in silence, Pete was overwhelmed, I felt sorry for him but it wouldn't change the rest of the day. He needed to sleep, sort his thoughts out, convince himself I was his friend again and not some serial kidnapper or something. We reached the station at the bottom and I pulled out my "undercover" I.D. and handed it to the clerk in a glass box. He looked it over and asked in a monotone, "What class ticket would you like?" I hit the STANDARD button and then lifted two fingers. The clerk nodded and two plastic, rectangular, green cards popped out of a dispenser on the outside of his booth. I took those and my I.D. and we walked into the station. In the atrium there were seven round pads for all the different ticket classes, corresponding to the Clockwork mechanic's standards.
I handed Pete a card and slid mine into the card taking thingy next to the pad(So I'm not a tech guy what do you want?) and felt the familiar tug in my gut. With a brief lapse of darkness I found myself in what resembled a mall and a train station mix. I stepped off the pad and turned around to wait for Pete, on further thought I also sat down on the ground, he would take a little while. I was right, it took a full five minutes before a wide eyed Pete appeared on the pad and vomited in the handy basket to the left of the pad.(Did I mention that?)I got up from my spot to pat my friend on the back, "Don't worry man, you'll get used to it after a few runs." He shot me a look that reminded me, I never told him about the occasional nausea that's induced by the ever malfunctioning STANDARD plate. I just ignored it and started walking slowly towards the train that just pulled in, after a bit Pete caught up looking around at the station, "What is this place? And What was that pad?" I looked over my shoulder at him and replied, "That pad was a RTD, Rapid Transit Device, I don't know how it works but I know it's expensive. It brought us under the mountain we were on a few minutes ago. This place is the central hub for the ATS, Academy Transit System, this consists of magnetic rail trains that circumvent the island and provide the basic transport for all the students. We're looking for the one to the Athletic District." Just as I said this I spotted the train a sleek silvery machine with notoriously slow doors. And it was about to leave. I laughed and waved for Pete to follow me, we ran to the train, I reached it first and I grabbed his two bags as he threw them. Then I caught his hand just before he fell out of grasp. I pulled him in and we both laughed at the thrill. It was good to have my old friend back.
As the train pulled out of the station we found our seats in the spacious cabin, there was a girl sitting on the left side, she looked to be about fifteen with chestnut hair, green eyes, and a rather appealing figure. She had watched our escapade and cocked an eyebrow. I gave her one of my best smiles and proceeded to sit down next to her, I should probably also mention, she was my girlfriend."I thought you had decided to stay the night over there when you took an hour longer than you wanted." she said.
"Sorry about that, you understand how people panic when they see the farmhouse. Anyway, this is Pete, Pete this is Nicole Smith." Pete just looked at her quizzically and then sat down on the opposite side. "He's a bit overwhelmed." I apologized. Nicole attempted to hide a smile as she said," I can see that." Now by this time we had cleared the base of the mountain and Pete was staring out the window in awe as we zoomed past a beautiful view of the ocean.
We sat in silence letting Pete get a view of the island. It had been a while since I had last seen her, I spent most of my time training or derailing Skyl's latest attempt at a takeover. I looked over at her to see concern in her eyes, "What is it?' I asked. She just took my hand and gave it a squeeze. And so it was until we got to the city. Academy city is the home of all the students, staff, and most residents of this world. I should probably mention that the only land In this entire world is the Island, about twice the size of the entire state of Hawaii. But it's a picturesque place, beautiful, and warm, this is also a popular resort. The only other places to live are artificial islands, massive metal constructs built in the shallower parts, the continents on most other Earths. When we pulled in to the station I grabbed one of Pete's bags and we made our way to The Edge a tall skyscraper shaped like a katana and serving as the dorm for all students participating in the games at the sports complex nearby.
By Sports complex I mean the largest man-made structure devoted to anything recreational or professional in the terms of sports. Reaching 500 stories high, it has two snow mountains, 20 football fields capable of soccer/track and field as well. 13 Olympic sized swimming pools, 2 rivers snaking from the top to bottom on either side of the complex for rafting, gyms, basketball courts, hockey rinks, and much, much more. But the one place, the most popular place of them all, is the gladiator ring. The Arena. Technically it's a pocket dimension that's viewable by an outside audience, the timeline in that world is completely reversible and the terrain and size completely malleable. It can be small for a one on one or the size of Jupiter for massive campaigns carried out as battle training for most of the students.
I brought Pete to the elevator in the front of the building and pressed the top floor. It was a 5 minute ride but I didn't want Pete to know about the other ways to get up yet. When we reached the top floor I looked around, it was exactly as I remembered, and it should have been, I own the top floor, and because of that it is a small circle surrounding the elevator shaft with only six rooms. One for me, one for Nicole, three unoccupied and now one for Pete. We stepped out of the elevator and I gave him the low-down. "So, your room is #2. Right next to mine, #1. Nicole's is #6. The room here are... special, do you see that cool digital computer next to the door?" He nodded, "That is a PAD, short for personal acquisition device. It can turn your room into a mansion, it can do anything, each room is a pocket dimension and the PADs are the control system for the world, when you develop an exterior you can manipulate the weather, time of day, even the terrain whenever you want. But it costs some cash, the Academy has a monetary system that is completely digital. You will receive a sliver credit card type thing in about a day. That is your monetary transaction enabler, it verifies you as you and accesses your account, it will only access the account of the person touching it so don't worry if you lose it. You can earn cash by grades, and other normal ways like jobs, gifts, etc. You have 800C to start with, I've also given you a welcome gift of 5000C. Spend it well." With that I left an intrigued Pete to decide while I entered my own personal world to get reacquainted with my girlfriend.
File 3
It took a day or so for Pete to come back from reassembling his dorm. From my floor schematic I could see he had a five room apartment, modest guy. I had a 564,234,903 square foot world with 234,903 as a massive castle. Complete with maids, guards, and people farming and doing other miscellaneous things for maintenance. There was an armory, a training ground, and lots of rooms. I had my own personal army. How did I afford this? It's a secret.
Pete's arrival into my humble abode was more eventful than I anticipated. He came rushing in with this crazed look on his face shouting, "I CAN SHOOT F***KING LIGHTNING BOLTS FROM MY HANDS! WHY CAN I DO THIS MICHAEL?!?!?!" Oops, I hadn't told him about his new abilities in this world, explaining time I guess(YAY!). I tried not to laugh too much, "Well, I didn't mention this earlier when you were so obviously overwhelmed with everything. You can use magic here."
"WHAT?!?"
"You can use magic in this world, for a more comprehensive understanding you'll read about it in the Universal Properties manual in school."

Part 1: The Classification System
The universe is an amazing place, or for a more accurate description, universes are amazing places. I'm not entirely certain there is a name for this interconnection of parallel worlds, so to be simple I will dub it The Web. The Web is made up of multiple worlds with multiple realities, in most cases a similar world is only an offspring of a decision, and as a result there is an endless number of them. However, in the beginning, it is speculated that there was only one universe, and from that it had offshoots. I disagree. In some worlds the laws of physics and other key parts are changed, drastically. The inclusion of magic is one. In some universes there is a force, in others it comes from within, but in still others it is merely a genetic mutation fitting with non-magic realm's laws of physics. From this and the multitude of worlds there was a conundrum," How do we keep track of all these worlds?" And so came the Universe Classification System, the U.C.S. for acronym lovers. For every particular group of worlds to be classified together they must have the same planet as a home world that gives us a name. Then from there we have a five phase ranking system of the conditions in world. The first is a scale of 1-10 on technological progress. 1:No intelligent life developed. 2:Stone Age 3:Bronze Age 4:Iron Age 5:Early Gunpowder 6:Electricity introduced 7:Atomic energy harnessed 8:Space faring 9:Extrasolar 10:Extragalactic. Next is the condition of the world:1:This is hell only the bravest or the most foolish will ever go here and not without death 2:Extremely Dangerous 3:Dangerous 4:Caution 5:Moderately violent 6: Mostly peaceful 7:No international conflicts 8:Only crimes 9:No manslaughter 10:Utopian. Next is magic on a 0-2 scale 2:Magic is able to be used by natives and can be used to awaken another's gift. 1:Magic is able to be used in the world but only by those that already can wield it. 0: No magic in the world at all. The final scale is of the native inhabitants ability to use magic. 0:Inability to use magic even in a magic world 1:Some are able to use magic once introduced to it. 2:Some are able to use magic from birth using the in dimension magic source(only viable for category 2 magic universes). 3:All inhabitants are able to use magic from birth.(Cat. 2 universes only). After this there are a multitude of split off's from a given world so they are gauged by the number of splits from the chosen "original world".
Part 2: The varying abilities
I:In differing universes are different abilities and forms of magic. In one the magical power may come completely from within. In another it may be drawn from an outside source. But due to the multitudes of varying types I will focus solely on the Academy where you will spend the next few years. The magical force here comes from within. The body generates a precise amount of magical energy a day measured by mu, magic units. Each mu is equivalent to a joule of energy if pumped into the environment without fine control. On average the body stores the mu within itself without drawing upon it until the internal reservoirs are filled at which point the mu will leak from the body into the environment surrounding the being.
II: The control of magic is achieved once the user has accessed it usually through flipping a mental switch in their head opening the reservoir in their body. Once the reservoir is opened the user can manipulate magic to their will. ONLY if they can direct the magic into doing exactly what is required. For example if you wanted to make a gun putting the magic in the form of a gun wouldn't work. You would need to figure out which internal parts are required in order to make a working magic gun. Also, when creating and invoking a spell certain supplies, vocal patterns(names), or motions may enhance the spell, this works with most spells though not all.
III: Magic is comprised of twelve elements. Ether, generic magical energy that is used for transformation or reality altering spells. Light, the use of light is mostly for healing and purifying. Darkness, this is most commonly referred to as the evil element as its sole purpose is destruction. Fire, is the use of fire and the ability to add heat energy indefinitely. Ice, the removal of heat the physical use of ice. Water, the use of water is used for manipulating water and healing. Air, the manipulation of gases. Lightning, the use of electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetic waves. Metal, the manipulation of metals. Earth, the physical manipulation of rock and nature. The final two elements are time and void. Time is a given as to what it does but it is so hard to control and so dangerous that little research has been done in this area. On the flip side of the coin is void. Sometimes called anti magic void is more a reverse and anti everything than an actual element. However only two void users have ever existed therefore researchers are at a loss here as well.
IV: Another thing of note is the catalyst system. Magic can be turned into a spell or imbued in an object for storage. One way of storage is to fill an object such as a crystal or an iron ball bearing with magical energy in order to draw the power later. Another way is to take the magical energy of a spell and compress it into a physical object called a catalyst. These are physical blocks of magic usually appearing as crystalline or metallic. Also, magic in its raw form takes on a similar appearance weapons can be made out of raw magical crystal and are usually graded on how pure they are and how well a mixture of multiple elements interacts.
Part 3: Magic and you
As you use magic your ability to generate mu will increase and your body will begin to adapt in strange new ways. The first thing of note will be increased strength, speed, and reflexes. After this you will notice an increase in your bodies tolerance to physical and magical damage and an increased rate of healing. Finally comes a decrease in the aging process. This is a passive effect however it can be amplified exponentially by opening one's internal reservoirs or tapping into a source. As your mu levels increase your ability to outperform mundane humans will too. One prominent wizard capable of generating roughly 1500 mega mu, 1500 multiplied by one million, was capable of running speeds of mach 8, could take force the equivalent of a nuclear bomb being dropped on him and lived for 947 years.

He looked at me oddly, "When will I be going to school?" This was turning into a real moment of genius for me. I had forgotten to enroll the guy! I put my arm around his shoulders and said, " Don't worry we'll get this sorted out." And I began to teach him the basics. After making sure he wouldn't accidently kill himself I brought him to his work, or his future workplace. The arena. When we got there he stopped and said, "No."
"But I haven't even asked you yet."
"The answer is still no. "
"The pay is excellent."
"Not good enough to risk my life."
I laughed, "So that's what it was. You can't die in the arena Pete. No matter how annihilated you are. The ring itself is a world that is extremely capable of manipulation in itself. Able to take on any shape or size and whatever happens inside is completely reversible."
"Oh."
I rubbed my hands together. My palms were itchy for some reason. I brought him to the entrance where it forked for spectators and participants. I led the way down familiar lit corridors that slowly turned into hand carved tunnels. After a while I came to the registration desk where Nicole sat behind a desk. "Peter Krowley is here for registration." I said walking up. She gave me a wink and a smile and handed me a packet "All ready done Michael. Take him down to the test area." I led Pete toward another room and he looked back, "She works here?" I put a finger to my lips, "No, she doesn't it's all part of my master plan to get you in though." We made it to our destination just fine. It was a square room 20'X20' with a shiny metal plate in floor that Pete was eyeing warily. Next to that was computer and a technical guru by the name of Jack. I handed Jack the papers and he nodded saying, "Already got the coordinates put in the machine." Looking at Pete, "You're not armed or anything? You got balls going to black harvest like that. I hope you survive man it's a cat. 2 world."
I nudged him and motioned to the packet. He opened it and began reading. While he did this I pulled an previously prepared stash from under Jack's desk and handed it to Pete sorting through the contents, "This is a fade cloak. It works like mine, it will let you walk around unnoticed by others. " I handed him a khaki cloak and as soon as he touched it the color changed to a black with blood red and gold highlights. Next I pulled out some inhalers, "These are EMIs Emergency Medical Inhalants, they are fast acting inhalers with advanced healing magic and tech inside that will heal you to full strength from the brink of death in a matter of seconds. Each one has one use." Next I handed him a list and a silver container. "These are lightning catalysts, your highest compatible magic type. The list shows you how many catalysts are required for a certain action and how to perform the action optimally. You have fifty catalysts. Use them well."
By this time Jack was done reading and had started to say something while plunking in some data to the computer, "Looks like someone with connections likes you Pete. You're going to Bleak, the easiest world we have." He looked over, "Oh, and you have gear now. This is nice I probably won't have to write up an incident report now. Step on the pad and we'll begin." Pete cautiously did as he was told now wearing his black fade cloak and a belt with silver catalyst container on it. Jack hit a button and an ominous sound began. I was about to pull Pete out when he vanished from the pad to appear on the viewing monitor in a bleak place that was definitely not Bleak. I rounded on Jack, "What happened?"
"I don't know, it's like someone hijacked the system at the last second to transport him somewhere else."
"Can you trace the coordinates?"
"I can try. But-"
"Do it," I said very firmly, "I'm getting him out of there." I opened another drawer in his desk and pulled out my own gear. My green fade cloak and hunting bow. Nine knives to hide across my person. All balanced for throwing or dueling and various other supplies. Finally I came across something and I instantly knew who did this. Under the pile of my gear was a dusty sword in its scabbard. The hilt was silver with an emerald in the pommel glowing faintly. The scabbard itself had the grim reaper's image and the blade inside was just like the emerald. A pale, translucent, glowing green. The blade was double-edged with a wide base up to a top where it narrowed in a triangle to a wickedly sharp point. The blade could pass through objects and could split into two single edged straight katana. The blade's name was Reaper, my nickname from the Lantern squad I was a part of. I had lost the blade in a mad escape from a Skyl holding facility and there was only one way for it to be back. Shale was behind this.
I checked the blade for any poison or any additional fixtures Shale might have placed on it but the blade was clean, looks like Shale just wanted a fight, if he gave me a clean sword he also expected a win. Not good. I spun towards the monitor just in time to see Pete create a sword out of the catalysts. I smiled. He had a good head on his shoulders. Also there was the fact that those catalysts were actually crystal taken straight from the core of the dimension of lightning. As pure as they could get he just made a sword with levels of badassness never seen before, I was looking forward to seeing what it could do.
Apparently he didn't quite care as much because he just looked at it, nodded and started walking in a particular direction. For a long expanse there was nothing around but grey dirt and the occasional dead bush. But I had to work to keep calm when he reached a massive castle complete with ten foot gargoyles around the edges. That castle was the holding facility that I had broken into and freed half the prisoners before losing Reaper. When Peter got to an open gate I shouted, "JACK! Hurry it up man!" As he approached an eight foot gargoyle dropped down in front of him and stood up. It had razor sharp claws and teeth, tough, black, stony skin, and red eyes.
I clenched my fists in apprehension. Pete looked at the gargoyle, shifted his grip on the sword and just calmly asked, "So do I have to kill you or what?" With a deafening roar the gargoyle swung its right claw with lightning speed. Pete ducked this and casually brought up his sword, the edge was so sharp he sliced through it in less than a second. The gargoyle looked at its disembodied arm in confusion and Pete jumped a good ten feet to stab its ugly face with his sword. The gargoyle fell to the ground convulsing and Pete just pulled out his blade and walked inside. The signal remained for about 5 seconds then cut to static. I wheeled toward Jack to see that he was charging the pad for a jump, we really needed better equipment back then, I didn't have time to wait, I pulled on the magical energy in the surroundings instead of in myself and got just enough to boost the energy levels to full power. I stepped on the pad and got into a sprinter's starting position. The world went dark and I found myself where Pete had first shown up. I accessed my reservoir and sent out a tracking spell, once I found his path I set off at full speed. There was a massive thump behind me and I shredded any vegetation in the vicinity as I passed by finally coming up to the castle. I pushed a good amount of energy into my right arm, jumped and broke a hole through the roof of the central portion. I fell through to find myself facing large steel double doors with an ominous energy leaking through from the far side. I accessed more and concentrated on a long knife of energy "Scian fuinnimh." I muttered. I felt a pull in my gut as filaments of white energy sprang from my chest to form a blade floating a few feet in front of me. I grabbed the blade and slammed it into the door crack to use as a focusing point for my next spell. I channeled energy through the blade and into the crack annihilating any bars or mechanisms preventing the opening. I drew my bow nocked two arrows then sent to door flying open with a kick to nearly get hit by a potentially deadly wave of lightning.
After my vision cleared I looked into the room to find Pete at the center of a mass of bodies using his last catalyst. There were three remaining figures circling Pete after his catalyst downed a fourth. I shot my arrows using subtle bursts of magic to guide them to their targets. Sheathing my bow I pulled out Reaper and flung myself at the last man. He barely managed to block a swipe at his midsection and jumped back to face his new foe. I shouted back at Pete, "Stay back. I'll take this guy." I swung Reaper at the man and he ducked underneath swiping at my legs. I flipped over him to slash at an angle as he stood. I managed to cut him but shallowly and he danced back leaking blood he growled and swung at me, I was glad he wasn't a magic user because I didn't feel like casting any more spells for today. As I ducked beneath his swipe I jumped and collided with his midsection knocking us into the ground. I quickly rolled off and stabbed him through the his stomach before he could collect his wits. With a gurgle I watched the life fade from his eyes as Reaper glowed and hissed releasing a ghostly green fog. My blade was happy to fight again. Did I mention Reaper was alive?
I briefly communed with the blade.("It's very good to be back old friend. Are we still in the fight? " Yes. We are Reaper, I want you to meet a friend later, he has another weapon like you. You'll have a new buddy. "Oh, really? I haven't met another sentient in years. Who is he?"Don't know, but he's straight from the Volt Core, very powerful. Now, we have unfinished business here. We'll talk later.)
I turned to the far corner of the room where a throne sat on a raised platform covered in shadow sat a throne. On the throne sat a figure. I couldn't see its' face but I caught sight of the right leg. The figure wore black pants and shoes that belonged to a business suit. Shale was here.
"So how are my most esteemed cousins doing today?" Came a thick, bass voice. "We're doing fine Shale."I growled. Pete walked up to me, "What's-" He was looking confused but I couldn't explain here or Shale could twist the facts, "I'll tell you later Pete." Shale continued, "Great-uncle Samson has definitely chosen you two as his successors. Peter right? Your inherent ability is astounding. I will enjoy seeing you in the interscholastic match in that 'Arena' of yours. I'm sending Hellfire Academy's best pair, you had better be prepared. Now, run along. I don't feel like engaging in combat with you today Michael. The sword is a gift, I can't have this marvelous game start with you at a disadvantage. It wouldn't be anywhere as interesting. Oh, and one last thing, if you're going to even try to stop my next move I should give you a hint. I will be in the Clock Tower when we next meet, if you wish to defeat me you must bring Preteritus and Posterus. BE GONE FROM MY WORLD!"
Under our feet a portal opened and we fell through the ceiling into the room where Jack was still sitting.
