Poetry

I've always viewed poetry as one of the most beautiful forms of art. Therefore I think we needed a good poetry section. :)

Post any kind of poems here. May it be poetry that speaks to you, poetry from a favorite poet, or even your own poetry. Whatever suits you!!... :)

I'll stop loving you
When diamonds never sparkle
& flowers cease to grow
When thunder never echos
& rivers don't flow
When hearts no longer wonder
& hands are never held
When smiles are only memories
& hope is never felt
When trees no longer blossom
& stars refuse to shine
When God alone commands me
Then I'll stop loving you
"Many wish they could be the sun, so the could brighten your day. I wish to be the moon, which shines down upon you on your darkest hour"

While I write a good amount of poetry, I actually haven't read that much. However, my favorite poet is without a doubt Lord Alfred Tennyson. His 'Ulysses' is one of my all time favorites. It's lengthy so I won't post the whole thing but here are two excerpts:

"How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!
As though to breathe were life. Life piled on life
Were all too little, and of one to me
Little remains: but every hour is saved
From that eternal silence, something more,
A bringer of new things; and vile it were
For some three suns to store and hoard myself,
And this grey spirit yearning in desire
To follow knowledge like a sinking star,
Beyond the utmost bound of human thought."

and

"Old age hath yet his honour and his toil;
Death closes all: but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep
Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles4,
And see the great Achilles5, whom we knew
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

It's just gorgeous, and I wonder whether Hideo Kojima read this before he conceptualized Metal Gear Solid 4, because it has similar themes of nobility in old age.

"Limbo"
I'm not bad enough for the devil
I'm not good enough for our lord
I've been living here in limbo
Since the day i was born

Searching for the answers
To all the questions that i ask
Finding dead end alleys and broken
ladders of my past

Of all the songs I've listened
And stories I've been told
There's only one or two
That hit the nail upon its head

But I'm not bad enough for the devil
And i'm not good enough for our lord
I've been living here in limbo
Since the day i was born

I guess one of these days things will turn
Around and goodness will prevail,
But in the mean time evil is in its hour
It makes me want to howl
It makes me want to shout
It makes me want to wonder
It makes me want to pout.
Cause I'm not bad enough for the devil
And i'm not good enough for our lord
This here limbo on earth is a ghastly hoard
Yet pitty is worthless when one doesn't
Know its worth
People yakking about this and making up their
Own version of that
its no wonder why the world uses Coke {TM} bottles
For eyes
whatever becomes has already happened before the after thought began at all
